There are non-negotiable fundamentals that must be addressed when undertaking a wood refinishing project. Preparation to allow the coating to penetrate is at the top of the list. Too many times the inexperienced apply stains or clear finishes that fail because the coating they have applied dries on the surface instead of penetrating and bonding. Another fundamental is getting the stain colour right. On exteriors, Western Red Cedar stains quite differently than Douglas Fir for example. On interior wood surfaces we see the same concerns, although with different species, Maple, Red Oak, White Oak, Fir, Walnut, Hemlock, Pine, Teak… all with different responses to stains and clear finishes. Getting these things right is a point of pride for us!
